Vaccines Are Finished

>> Thursday, June 9, 2011

As of Monday of this week, we are all finished receiving our vaccinations for our trip. Praise God! After receiving a total of 6-7 shots each, we should be good for a while! We could probably travel anywhere with all the stuff that's been injected. Ha!

We had a pretty good experience with the walk in clinic we went to. Three times. One nurse was a little bit heavy handed compared to the other. Matt swears he won't go back there again to the heavy handed one. "She's not touching me ever again" were the words he used, I think.

So thankful that this part is behind us. Now to wait on the bills to come in...

Yellow Fever Cards

>> Tuesday, May 24, 2011

We're so close to be finished with all of our vaccinations for Uganda. One more trip to the Urgent Care and we'll be good to go! We spent last Friday evening at the Urgent Care to get our Yellow Fever, Typhoid and Meningitis shots. Sounds like a fun date night, right? No worries, though. We stopped at Whole Foods for a cupcake (Matt) and Mint Chocolate Chip Gelato (me) on the way home. And then made BBQ Chicken pizza for dinner.

Anyways, we've only got two vaccinations each left to get: a polio booster and the second Hepatitis A/B. We got our official yellow cards for yellow fever that we must have to get in to Uganda. Can't. Lose. These.

Only 54 days until we leave!

Vaccinations Are Underway

>> Tuesday, May 10, 2011

Last week, Matt and I began the process of getting our vaccinations for our trip. It's been so long since I've had a shot, I honestly forgot how painful they can be! Especially that tetanus shot. Yowzers! We were able to get our first round of the Hepatitis A/B combo shot. I also received the tetanus shot and the nurse did two titers on Matt to see if he needs to get MMR and Polio since we don't have his documentation on those. We'll go back in the next couple of weeks to get our shots for Yellow Fever, Typhoid and Meningitis, along with our second round of Hep A/B.

We haven't experienced any side effects as of yet, besides the muscle pain from the tetanus. We are so thankful that we were able to find a place that takes walk-ins AND insurance, so all of the routine shots will be covered. Thanks Blue Cross!

And, like it was during our days as kids when we were sometimes rewarded for enduring certain situations, we promptly sought out an ice cream shop when we were done because ice cream always makes things better, right? It just so happens that there is one just a few buildings down from the Urgent Care where we got our vaccines. Coincidence? I think not. It sure was a good peanut butter cup sundae!
